The new year always brings a wave of fitness across the community, and we all feel encouraged to do what we can to get active and strive for fitness.  Some of us feel too consumed with work, school, or family living to go to the gym.  You might believe you don’t have 20 minutes a day to spare, but just a 20 minute walk each day goes a long way.  There are many more ways to strive towards fitness than you might be thinking.  You may not go to the gym every day, but if you are mindful of the few time you have and how you perform your daily activities, you could burn calories while you are on the go.

Burning calories is all about raising metabolism.  That means staying active.  You have to be mindful and keep it moving.  For example, while you get ready for work in the morning, try to keep those hips wiggling to your favorite song.  It doesn’t sound like very much, but doing this throughout your day can actually help you burn enough calories to make a real impact, and it is not as difficult as you think.  When you get to work, skip the elevator and take the stairs if it is reasonable.  And don’t be afraid to walk an extra few steps here and there throughout the office.  The key is staying in motion.

Taking the stairs instead of the elevator is no substitute for taking time to enhance your fitness with more substantial exercise, but it is a place to start and will help you maintain activity.  Make your daily actions count towards improving your fitness and quality of life.
