We’re seeking feedback on a study regarding potentially lifesaving care for critical burn injuries.

Our Firefighters Burn Center is studying whether transfusing plasma during early treatment will help severely burned patients survive. As part of the study, the public is invited to complete an anonymous survey at www.litesnetwork.org/PREEVENT

Known as the Plasma Resuscitation Early for Evaluating Volume and Endotheliopathy of Thermal Injury (PREEVEnT) trial, the study will include approximately 750 people aged 18 to 75 from across the country, including the Greater Memphis area. Patients with severe thermal burn injuries covering at least 20% of their total body surface may be enrolled after arrival to Regional One Health’s Firefighters Burn Center.

The trial requires performing a potentially lifesaving intervention in people who are too injured to give permission. Permission for continued participation will be obtained from patients once they are able to provide it, or from their family members, as soon as possible.
