Demolition on the former Commercial Appeal building located at 495 Union Ave. started Tuesday, June 16, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the development of the new Regional One Health campus.
“The decision to begin preparing this site represents an important step forward in our commitment to providing exceptional care for every patient who walks through our doors,” said President and CEO Reginald Coopwood, MD. “The new hospital will allow us to better serve our community, strengthen access to lifesaving care, and ensure the Mid-South has a healthcare facility that supports the future of healthcare.”
Portions of Regional One Health’s existing hospital were designed for a different era of healthcare delivery. The new hospital will provide a more efficient environment for patients, families, and care teams while supporting advances in medicine, technology, and patient-centered care.
As the region’s essential hospital and home to nationally recognized trauma, burn, rehabilitation and specialty care services, Regional One Health plays a vital role in care for patients throughout the Mid-South. The organization serves as a critical healthcare resource for Memphis and the Mid-South, caring for some of the region’s most medically complex patients. The project represents a transformative investment in the health and well-being of the community and will help ensure patients have access to high-quality care in a facility designed for the needs of the future.
