Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology services at Regional One Health
Santosh Koshy, MD, has had a great amount of medical training. After training in India and repeating most of his medical education in the United States, he has great respect for the difficulty and challenge of the study of medicine, which he enthusiastically met in both countries. He has extensive teaching experience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Florida, University of Missouri, St. Louis University and the University of Kerala in India. It is this expertise that helps him equip medical students as he mentors them and trains cardiology fellows.
With a special interest in endovascular procedures and angioplasty, his favorite thing about his job is the gratification he receives from not only helping students, but helping patients.
"I love it when patients get cured. When people come in with heart attacks and I do angioplasty and place a stent in the middle of the night, they feel normal when they were crying for help from the pain and were in imminent danger. Once I get in and open that artery, they feel completely normal," Dr. Koshy said.
He is proud of the comprehensive care offered by Regional One for all cardiology and vascular related diseases, as well as the advanced treatment strategy and preventive strategies employed. Excited about the diverse segments of the community served, Koshy feels his most important mission is caring for indigent patients who have few choices for their care.
His patient care philosophy? It is most important to listen to the patient and find out exactly what they want and deliver that in the best possible way.
