Family Nurse Practitioner services at Regional One Health
Laura Thompson, DNP, FNP-BC, is a family nurse practitioner at Regional One Health’s Primary Care Specialists. Thompson earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chatham University in Pittsburgh. She joined Primary Care Specialists as a family nurse practitioner in 2005.
Thompson entered the health care profession after originally studying business and fashion merchandising.
“I decided to be a nurse when my dad’s sister had breast cancer,” she said. “I wasn’t good with blood and those things, but it changed my focus to want to care for people.”
Thompson’s philosophy of care follows the Golden Rule.
“I want to treat everybody the way I’d want to be treated,” she said. “That’s how I treat every patient. It doesn’t matter who they are. Everybody gets time so I can take care of their needs.”
Thompson manages acute, chronic and preventative health care needs of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients daily. Chronic diseases treated include diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
