Hina Akbar, MD is a board-certified internal medicine physician at Regional One Health. She obtained her medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr. Akbar completed both her internship and residency at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where she received the James R. Givens Award.
In 2006, Dr. Akbar earned first position nationally on her Medical Colleges Admission Test and earned second position nationally in Pre-Medical Sciences. Her exemplary academic success allowed her to receive the Presidential Academic Merit Scholarship for her medical education.
Coming from a family of distinguished physicians, Dr. Akbar was inspired to become an internal medicine specialist by her father. The thing she cherishes most about being a physician is the respect, compassion and humanism that embodies the patient-to-physician relationship.
Dr. Akbar’s patient care philosophy is based on a quote from Sir William Osler, a Canadian physician and author who helped found Johns Hopkins Hospital and created the first residency program to train medical students in a clinical setting: “The good physician treats the disease. The great physician treats the patient who has the disease.”
