Christopher Garrett Russell, CRNA, DNP, is a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Regional One Health. Russell received his Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
“My favorite part of being a certified registered nurse anesthetist is meeting the people of our community in their most vulnerable state,” Russell shared. “I have the opportunity to serve them, treat them and help them heal in all aspects including mentally, physically and spiritually.”
Russell states it is important to treat patients while serving, treating and helping them. “My favorite saying about health care is from the movie ‘Patch Adams’ and it says, ‘You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.’” Not only is serving the community a big part of Russell’s life, but travelling internationally for missions work through Medical Missions is too.
“I try to go to Haiti twice a year to assist with medical care and procedures,” Russell said. “We work at a children’s orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti, and typically treat between 150-200 children over seven days each time. Medical Missions has been a huge part of my life.”
Russell is an active member with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the Tennessee Association of Nurse Anesthetists and on the board of directors for the Memphis Student Nurse Anesthetist Foundation.
