Internal Medicine services at Regional One Health
Bradford D. Pendley, Ph.D., MD, is a physician at Regional One Health’s Primary Care Specialists and a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He also is a
biomedical engineering professor at University of Memphis. Dr. Pendley’s career began in academia; he was a chemistry professor at Rhodes College when he decided to attend medical school in part to better understand applications of research.
While a student, Dr. Pendley developed an interest in primary care and ultimately joined Primary Care Specialists as a full-time physician in 2010. The University of Memphis brought Dr. Pendley on as an affiliate professor in 2012, allowing him to combine his academia and medicine passions.
“I’ve tremendously enjoyed this kind of mixture,” he said. “A lot of our students are placed in medical schools. I’ve been able to formulate research problems a lot better than I could’ve ever done without being a physician.”
Dr. Pendley takes his talent for the classroom to his patients, particularly his ability to teach.
“My patients really like that I explain things to them,” he said. “Gone is the day when patients just want to be told by a doctor what to do. I’m not here to decide. I’m here to advise. It’s not my body. I want to give the best information to the patient that allows them to make the best decision.”
