Anesthesiology and Family Nurse Practitioner services at Regional One Health
Barbara Sims-Shockley, MSN ED., APRN, NP-C is a family nurse practitioner at Regional One Health. Sims-Shockley received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Baptist College of Health Sciences. Later she completed her studies at Austin Peay State University where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree.
“I became a nurse practitioner so that I could incorporate the entire nursing theory of holistic care and nursing knowledge into becoming a provider that would be able to touch on many facets of my patient’s needs,” Sims-Shockley said. “I have always wanted to be in nursing since childhood. I would take the classified job listings out of the newspaper and look for nursing jobs because I knew that caring for others was in my heart.”
“I always say, ‘healthcare changes daily and we should seek to change with the times for the betterment of our patients. Never get stuck in your own way of thinking because each individual patient’s needs are different and you have to be versatile enough to flow with the changes that this profession and clients bring.’"
Sims-Shockley appreciates every patient that has allowed her to care for them throughout her career. “I owe it all to them because through them I’ve learned to be a better provider and listener.”
