Brian Thomas Hawkins, MD is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Regional One Health.

He earned his medical degree at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and completed his emergency medicine residency at University of Louisville in Kentucky. He also holds an MBA with a focus in healthcare from University of Ohio in Athens.

Dr. Hawkins has a wealth of experience in both patient care and academic settings.

He has provided emergency medical care for over 20 years and has held a variety of leadership roles, including serving as medical director at a busy community hospital and a major academic medical center. Areas of clinical care focus include general emergency medicine, resuscitation, and airway management.

Dr .Hawkins has been recognized with numerous awards as an educator and researcher, and currently is an assistant professor at University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine. His research and teaching focus areas are risk management, administrative emergency medicine, and medical error reduction.

Dr. Hawkins’ research has been published in Ferri’s Clinical Advisor and Annals of Emergency Medicine, and he is a frequent presenter at professional conferences. He is currently a co-investigator on a National Institutes of Health-funded study related to sickle cell disease.

He currently serves as vice president of Tennessee Academy of Emergency Medicne.

Outside of work, his interests include martial arts and spending time with family.
