Anthony P. Nicholas, MD, PhD
Anthony P. Nicholas, MD, PhD is a Neurologist at Regional One Health and Chair of the Department of Medical Education at University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He specializes in the treatment of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
Dr. Nicholas earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He earned his PhD in Anatomy from Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, also in Galveston.
Dr. Nicholas completed his neurology residency and movement disorders fellowship at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also completed a transitional medicine internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Nicholas has over 30 years of experience in patient care and academic medicine, most recently serving as Director of Movement Disorders at UAB, where he cared for patients with Parkinson’s Disease.
At UTHSC, along with serving as Chair of the Department of Medical Education, Dr. Nicholas is Professor and Director of the Movement Disorders Division in the Department of Neurology.
His research focus areas are Parkinson’s disease and cervical dystonia. He has delivered lectures and presentations all over the world, and his work has been published in Journal of Neurosurgery, American Journal of Neuroradiology, New England Journal of Medicine, and more. He is the author of several books and numerous book chapters.
Dr. Nicholas has received awards for both patient care and teaching. He has been named to Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors,” “America’s Most Honored Doctors,” and “Top Doctor of Neurology” lists numerous times. He has earned numerous Argus Awards for teaching and received the UAB Medical School President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Movement Disorders Society, International Essential Tremor Foundation, American Neurological Association, and Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
Dr. Nicholas is presently seeing patients for evaluation of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and cervical dystonia at the Regional One East Campus on Quince Road every Wednesday and Friday morning.
