Ayotunde Dokun, MD, PhD

Ayotunde Dokun, MD, PhD is an academic physician for the endocrinology medicine faculty at University of Tennessee in Memphis. Dr. Dokun attended medical school at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed his internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Dr. Dokun also completed his fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Endocrine.
Dr. Dokun believes everyone should not only have access to healthcare, but better outcomes as well. "It is my responsibility not only to care for those who entrust me with their healthcare," Dr. Dokun said, "but to also educate them on their current health status and how to achieve better health." Dr. Dokun's commitment to improving patients lives has propelled his research work. "I am not only a clinician; I am also a teacher and a scientist," Dr. Dokun shared. "As a teacher, I am involved in the training of other physicians locally and nationally. As a scientist, I am in pursuit of new discoveries that could not only improve the health of people in our community, but could improve the health of individuals nationwide."
Dr. Dokun's work has been published in the Research Journal of Health Science, The Journal of Immunology, and Cardiovascular Research. He has been invited to speak at national and international conferences such as the 112th Annual Scientific Conference in Honolulu, HI, and the 2016 Endocrine Society Meeting in Boston, MA. Dr. Dokun is the recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundations Medical Faculty Development Program Award, the Jay D. Coffman Early Career Investigator Award, and the Doctoral Dissertation Award.
