Radio evangelist Sarah Hall of Indianola, Mississippi, doesn’t do things halfway. When she was considering Regional One Health’s Firefighters Burn Center as the beneficiary of her annual gospel concert fundraiser, she drove to Memphis to check things out.

I WANTED TO MEET THE STAFF. I WANTED TO SEE THE FACILITY. I WANTED TO SIT DOWN WITH THE DIRECTOR OF THE REGIONAL ONE HEALTH FOUNDATION TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS A PLACE WE WANTED TO SUPPORT.

Her Annual Gospel Extravaganza was then in its eighth year. The concerts started as fundraisers for the burn center in nearby Greenville. When the center there closed, Sarah researched other options, and that led her to Regional One Health.

“They gave me a tour of the Firefighters Burn Center, and the people there were extremely cordial,” she says. “The facility was impressive and the staff was very professional. You could tell they loved what they were doing. Most of all, everyone we talked to seemed genuinely appreciative that we were considering them.”

That was 11 years ago. Since then, her concerts have raised more than $32,000 for the Firefighters Burn Center.

Past concerts have featured top regional gospel performers, including Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; The Gospel Imperials of Huntsville, Alabama; and The Southern Sons of Memphis.

“A lot of people work really hard to make this happen each year,” Sarah says. “Regional One Health seems to understand and appreciate that.”

In fact, she says, the Regional One Health Foundation sends thank-you letters to all their donors. “That’s nice because it gives people confirmation that their money really did help a good cause.”
