Joy Steadman, MD

Joy Steadman, MD is an associate professor and assistant chair for the anesthesiology faculty at University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Steadman received her medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, WV. She completed both her surgical internship and anesthesia training at West Virginia University.
Before joining UT Regional One Physicians, Dr. Steadman held roles ranging from Director of Anesthesiology at a hospital system in West Virginia to Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia at the University of Miami.
During Dr. Steadman's career she has established Acute Pain Service and improved hospital HCAHPS scores while decreasing anesthesia related costs, and has conducted several IRB-approved studies. Dr. Steadman was the first anesthesiologist to be nominated for Teacher of the Year for the University of Miami School of Medicine for her lectures in anesthesiology and pulmonary physiology.
A frequent speaker, Dr. Steadman has presented for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and most recently the Tennessee Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Steadman's favorite part about her job is working with her patients. "I love it when I get patients with extraordinary problems and can come up with a plan that serves the patient's needs," she explained. "I have been a patient myself and have had some very unsatisfactory outcomes, so I try to make sure none of my patients go through the things I have gone through."
